Reliability & security
Last checked: October 2026
Your work deserves a home you can rely on. This page explains, in plain terms, how Long Play keeps videos available, backed up and private - and where your data lives.
Uptime and monitoring
Long Play is checked every five minutes by an independent monitoring service, from outside our own servers. You can see the live status and uptime history on our public status page.
Our own systems also watch the servers every 15 minutes, and alert us automatically if real viewers' videos start failing, stalling or starting slowly - so we hear about playback problems from the platform itself, not from complaints.
Video delivery
Videos stream through a global content delivery network, with copies kept in Sydney and Los Angeles so they start quickly. If that network has trouble, the player switches viewers to a second, independent network automatically - usually within a few seconds, without restarting the video.
If a viewer's own connection drops, the player waits for it to come back and carries on from where they were.
Backups
- Your original files are stored at full quality with Backblaze B2, and a second, independent copy is kept with Google Cloud Storage. New uploads are copied there nightly, once they are a day old.
- The platform database (accounts, video details, settings) is backed up every night to both providers. Each copy is checked after it is written, and we test restoring from it.
- Deleted videos are held for 8 days before they are permanently removed, so a mistake can be undone. Contact Support within that time.
Once a video is a day old, two separate companies hold its original - so a serious problem at either one would not lose your work.
Security
- Every connection to Long Play is encrypted (HTTPS only).
- Stored video files are encrypted at rest (AES-256), with both storage providers.
- Private and unlisted videos can only be fetched with a signed link that expires. You can add a password, or share time-limited screener links you can revoke at any time.
- Passwords are stored using a slow, salted hash, never in readable form. Two-factor authentication and Sign in with Google are available on every account.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Card details never reach our servers.
- Each part of the system only has the access it needs - for example, the keys that store videos cannot change storage settings.
- Changes to a video's visibility and deletions are recorded, so we can always see what happened and when.
Where your data lives
- The platform and its database: DigitalOcean, Sydney, Australia.
- Video files: Backblaze B2, United States.
- Backup copies: Google Cloud Storage, United States.
- Delivery to viewers: content delivery networks (Bunny.net, with Amazon CloudFront as backup), which keep temporary copies close to viewers. Cloudflare protects and speeds up the website itself.
- Payments: Stripe.
Your data is only used to run Long Play. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and your videos are never used to train AI. More detail is in our Privacy policy.
Your work stays yours
You can download your original files at any time, at the quality you uploaded them. If you ever decide to leave, your work leaves with you. Our long-term commitments are set out in our Principles & Permanence Pledge.
