Supported formats and encoding

If you're wondering whether your file will upload, the short answer is: probably yes. Long Play accepts most common video formats. If it plays in VLC, it will almost certainly work here.

Formats that work well

  • MP4 (H.264 or HEVC source) - recommended
  • MOV (QuickTime)
  • MKV
  • AVI, WMV, FLV - accepted but MP4 is preferred for originals

What we encode

After upload, Long Play processes your video for streaming, generating 1080p, 720p, and 480p renditions so the player can adapt to each viewer's connection. 4K source files also get a 4K stream. Your original file is always kept intact - we never alter it.

Creator plan and up subscribers can also run Quality Optimization to further refine the encoding settings for each video.

Audio normalisation

Long Play applies loudness normalisation during processing so audio levels stay consistent as viewers move through your library. Your original file is never touched - this only applies to the streaming version.

Once you've uploaded, see what happens after you upload to understand the processing stages.
