Collaborators and channel management

If you're on the Creator plan, you can invite up to 3 people to help manage each of your channels - on the Pro plan, that's up to 10. Collaborators are added per channel, so someone invited to one channel can't see your others. Collaborators log in with their own Long Play account - they don't share your password - and can switch into your channel context to upload videos, edit metadata, or administer the channel depending on their role.

Roles

There are three roles, each with a different level of access:

  • Admin - Full channel access except billing and account settings. Can upload, edit, and delete videos, and manage collaborators. Account settings - including password, profile, and account deletion - are accessible to the channel owner only.
  • Editor - Can upload videos, edit metadata, add captions and tracks, and manage share links. Can't add or remove collaborators.
  • Uploader - Can upload new videos only. Can't edit existing videos or change any settings.

Inviting a collaborator

  1. Go to Settings → Collaborators
  2. Enter the person's email address and choose a role
  3. Click Send invitation

Long Play sends them an invite link valid for 7 days. If they don't have a Long Play account yet, they'll be prompted to create one before accepting.

Accepting an invitation

Click the link in the invitation email. You'll need to be signed in with the account that matches the invited email address. After accepting, the channel appears under Settings → Channels you manage.

Switching into a managed channel

Go to Settings → Channels you manage and click Manage next to the channel you want to work in. A persistent banner appears below the navigation bar showing the channel name and two buttons:

  • Switch channel - opens a modal to move between any channels you manage
  • Back to your account - returns you to your own main channel immediately

All uploads and edits made while in this mode apply to the managed channel, not your own account. If you own more than one channel yourself, the same banner and switcher move you between your own channels too; see Running more than one channel.

Removing a collaborator

Channel owners can remove a collaborator at any time from Settings → Collaborators. Their access is revoked immediately.

Revoking your own access

To leave a channel you're collaborating on, ask the channel owner to remove you from Settings → Collaborators - you can't remove yourself from their list. If you're having trouble reaching the owner, contact us and we can help.

Transferring channel ownership

If you're stepping away from a channel for good - selling a business, handing off a project, moving on from a client - a channel (not your whole account) can be handed over to a different Long Play account, rather than just leaving it behind.

This hands over:

  • Every video on that channel
  • The channel's own display name and brand details
  • The channel's collaborator team - they keep their existing roles, no need to re-invite anyone

This does not hand over:

  • Your billing. The new owner keeps their own Creator or Pro plan subscription, or picks one up if they don't already have one (see below).
  • Access to anything outside this channel. Your own Long Play account keeps working as normal for anything unrelated to this channel, including your default channel, which can't be transferred.

Existing buyers and subscribers are unaffected. Anyone who bought, rented, or subscribed to this channel keeps their access exactly as before - there's nothing for them to do.

How to transfer

Self-service transfer isn't in Settings yet. Contact us with the channel you'd like to hand over and the email of the account it should go to, and we'll arrange it. The destination account has to actively accept the transfer before anything moves - nobody can have a channel dumped on them without agreeing to it first.

If the new owner isn't on a paid plan yet

Paid features (rentals, subscriptions, purchases) don't just switch off the moment the channel changes hands. The new owner gets a 30-day grace period where everything keeps working as before, giving them time to set up their own Creator or Pro plan without any disruption to viewers. After 30 days, if they haven't upgraded, paid-only features stop working until they do - the channel and its videos stay exactly as they are either way.
