Running more than one channel
One Long Play account can run several separate channels, each with its own name, page, videos, subscribers and ads. This is useful if you run more than one business or project, for example a dog grooming channel and a separate takeaway restaurant channel, and want one login and one bill.
Who can have more than one channel
Your account's own page is your first channel, and it counts toward the limit. Free accounts can run two channels in total: your main account plus one more, for example your home videos on the main account and a business on the second. The Creator plan allows up to four channels in total: your main account plus three more. The Pro plan allows up to twelve: your main account plus eleven more. Some features on a channel, such as Ad Manager and subscriptions, are Creator plan and up features.
Creating a channel
Go to Settings and find the Your channels card. Choose a web address for the new channel (letters, numbers and hyphens only) and, if you like, a display name, then create it. The address becomes /u/your-address, and it can't be the same as another channel or another person's username.
Switching between your channels
Once you have two or more channels, a banner appears across the top of the site showing which channel you are working in, with a button to switch or to return to your main account. You can also switch from the Your channels card in Settings. Everything you do while a channel is active, such as uploading, editing your profile or setting up ads, applies to that channel.
What belongs to each channel
- Profile and public page: display name, statement, website, featured video, subscription link and support link.
- Videos: each video lives in one channel. Uploads go to the channel you are working in by default, and the upload page lets you pick a different one.
- Follows: a follower of one channel gets nothing from your other channels.
- RSS feed and search results: each channel has its own feed at
/u/your-address/feed.xml, and its videos appear in search under the channel's name. - Collections: a video can only be in collections from its own channel.
- Ad Manager: each ad lives in one channel and only plays on that channel's videos. Embed settings, support links and pausing campaigns are set per channel.
What stays shared across your account
Your plan's video storage and hours are one pool for the whole account, however many channels you have, and so is the limit on how many ads you can upload. Billing, your login and your account security settings are also shared.
Moving a video to a different channel
Open the video's edit page and use Move to a different channel. Only the channel changes. Your storage quota is not affected. The video is taken out of any collections belonging to the channel it left, and it stops being that channel's featured video if it was.
Moving an ad to a different channel
On Ad Manager, My Ads, use Move ad on the ad. Moving an ad clears where it was placed, so you set it up again in its new channel.
Things to know
- A channel that still has ads can't be handed to another account. Move or delete its ads first.
- Collaborators are added per channel, so someone you invite to one channel can't see your others.
- The account media kit page shows only your main account's videos.
