Editing caption tracks
Every caption track on Long Play has a built-in editor. You can fix typos, adjust timecodes, change cue positions, add new cues, and delete ones you don't want - all without leaving the browser.
Opening the editor
Go to your video's edit page, open the Captions & Audio tab, find the track you want to edit, and click Edit. If you've just had an auto-generated track finish, your dashboard notification links directly to it.
The editor layout
The top half shows your video with a live caption preview - captions render over the video in real time as you make changes. Below the player is the cue list: every cue in the track, one row each.
Click any cue row to jump the video to that point. Press Space to play or pause without leaving a text field.
Editing a cue
Each row has:
- In / Out - the start and end timecode in
HH:MM:SS.mmmformat. Edit directly; the video won't move while you type. - Position - where the cue appears over the video: Bottom (default), Top, Top left, or Top right.
- Text - the caption text. Multi-line is supported; press Enter for a new line within a cue.
- ▶ Seek - jumps the video to that cue's start time.
- Delete cue - removes the cue from the track.
If a cue's duration looks unusually short or long, a small warning appears under the timecodes. It's advisory - you can still save.
Adding a cue
Click + Add cue at the top of the cue list. If the video is playing or paused at a specific point, the new cue starts there. Otherwise it starts where the last cue ends.
Saving
Click Save changes when you're ready. The updated track goes live immediately for viewers. The status bar shows "Saved." when it's done.
If you change your mind before saving, click Cancel changes to revert everything back to the last saved state.
Version history
Every time you save, Long Play automatically keeps a copy of the track as it was. The Versions button in the top bar shows how many snapshots exist.
Click it to open the version panel. Each entry shows the date and time of that save. The original uploaded file is always kept as well, no matter how many edits you make.
To restore an older version: click Load next to it, then click Save changes to make it live. Loading a version only loads it into the editor - it doesn't publish anything until you save.
Long Play keeps the last 20 saved versions plus the original. If you save more than 20 times, the oldest snapshot is dropped (the original is never removed).
